The Churn Lab is not a product. It is the room where we still argue with numbers.

Quiet office interior with long wooden table

Once a month, faculty and a handful of alumni reopen anonymised cohorts and try to break last quarter’s story. App analytics and churn prediction for mobile apps go stale when nobody is in the room to insult a pretty curve. The Lab exists to keep the teaching honest.

What happens in a sitting

One export, two hours, no slides. Someone nominates a claim — “push users stay longer,” “COD failure does not matter,” “Day-7 is enough.” The table tries to kill it with the same archive students use in Cohort Signals.

Who may observe

Alumni of the flagship, Living Model retainers, and occasional university researchers from Thailand. We do not sell Lab tickets. Space is eight chairs. If you want in, say so when you write about a course seat.

What leaves the room

A one-page note, sometimes published in the journal, sometimes not. No vendor logos. No “AI lab” branding. If a sitting fails to change anyone’s mind, we write that down too.

Current obsessions

  • Family-shared Android Multiple people on one device wreck “unique user” churn. We are testing household-level windows instead of person-level ones.
  • Line-first onboarding When the first session happens inside a chat mini-app, install timestamps lie. The Lab is mapping a parallel clock.
  • Uninstall without a ping OEM battery savers kill background refresh. Silent death looks like healthy dormancy until week three.

If this sounds like work you already do, start with the catalogue or write to the desk. The Lab is a consequence of the teaching, not a substitute for it.
